The Creativity Research Unit

The Creativity Research Unit (CRU) is the component of CPSB which creates new knowledge, information and insights by conducting investigations and studies of creativity and change with individuals, groups and organizations. Our investigations and studies are done on both a national and international level. The function of CRU is to maintain CPSB's product leadership in it's existing services, fuel the development of new products and services and provide new knowledge to the academic study of creativity and change.

Functions
Since research is such a major component of our business the CRU is composed of three primary functions. We have labeled these functions Scholarly Inquiry, Applied Research and Assessment Scoring and Analysis.

Scholarly Inquiry is aimed at our basic research into creativity and change. To support our research we maintain a comprehensive library of close to 1,700 books on creativity, problem solving, psychology, leadership, organizational studies, and curriculum design. Our library of creativity journals includes complete sets of the three periodicals devoted to the study of creativity (Creativity Research Journal, Journal of Creative Behavior and Creativity & Innovation Management). We also maintain a comprehensive collection of periodical articles focused on Brainstorming and Organizational Climate. Another unique resource we have at our disposal is a collection of over 300 creativity surveys, questionnaires, and tests.

We maintain these resources as a means to remain as current as possible with developments in the field of creativity and problem solving. These resources also provide support for the design, implementation and dissemination of both our basic and applied research to our customers and academic journals. Our guiding question is: What works best, for whom, and under what circumstances?

A few examples of more specific questions include:

What are the factors that help or hinder the impact of creativity training?

How do people of different styles approach and apply Creative Problem Solving?

What leadership and management behaviors have the most impact on the climate for creativity, innovation and change?
